The Historic bama theatre | september 2025

The Historic Bama Theatre - Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Work Presented: ARARAT

Established in 1938, the Bama Theatre captivates audiences with its exciting year-round performance calendar. Managed by The Arts Council, the theatre is a cornerstone of cultural activity and community events in Tuscaloosa and West Alabama. In September 2025, the Bama Theatre presents staibdance’s ARARAT and partners with the University of Alabama for a week of workshops and community engagement surrounding the process and content of ARARAT.

American Dance Festival | July 2023

Rubenstein Arts Center, Duke University
July 1 & 2, 2023

The American Dance Festival presented fence at the Rubenstein Arts Center at Duke University. The American Dance Festival (ADF), a recognized leader in modern dance, has presented major, established companies and emerging artists from around the world since 1934. staibdance had the honor of performing during their 90th anniversary season and becoming the first-ever Atlanta-based company to perform at this iconic festival.

“Opening Nights”, Florida state University | September 2022

Nancy Smith Fichter Dance Theatre
September 21 & 22, 2022
Work Presented: fence

“Opening Nights” at Florida State University presented fence at the Nancy Smith Fichter Dance Theatre on September 21st and 22nd at 7:30pm. As part of the week-long residency at Florida State University, staibdance hosted six lectures, classes and community workshops with FSU students and the Tallahassee community, surrounding the process and production of fence. Three Florida State University were selected to perform alongside the company in the public performances.

Alabama Dance festival | January 2022

Odess Theatre at the Alys Stephens Center
January 20 - 23, 2022

During a week-long residency as part of the Alabama Dance Festival, staibdance Artistic Director and company members hosted six educational workshops for local institutions and taught five classes as part of ADF programming. The company shared five showings of fence at the Odess Theatre, inviting four community members to partake in the process and performance of the work. LEARN MORE about the Alabama Dance Festival.

Temple University | October 2021

Conwell Dance Theater at Temple University
October 29 & 30, 2021
Work Presented: fence

staibdance made its northeast debut and presented fence in the beautiful Conwell Dance Theater. Artistic Director George Staib, alongside collaborators Ben Coleman, Greg Catellier and company dancers, hosted five lectures, classes and community workshops surrounding the process and production of fence. The tour residency culminated in two performances of “fence”, the process of which folded in four Temple University students, and featured robust pre-show conversations.

Oxford College | October 2021

Williams Hall at Oxford College
October 19 & 20, 2021

Excerpts from George Staib’s work fence were presented over the course of two evenings inside Williams Hall, followed by facilitated dialogue post-performance. Prior to the performances, George Staib and company member Anna Bracewell-Crowder led movement and lecture classes for students. Community members were invited to join us as we allowed dance, its sources and the impressions it leaves to foster conversation surrounding ever-shifting power dynamics.
